The Oedipus complex is the term, not for server hosting dedicated, but for the unconscious emotions and ideas in every boy to sexually possess his mother, and to kill his father. It is a psychoanalytical theory that was coined by Sigmund Freud who believed it also applied to girls. Freud believed the girls have a homosexual attraction towards their mothers, something called the ‘Electra Complex’, a term introduced by Carl Gustav Jung. The Oedipus complex occurs during the third stage of the five psychosexual development stages which happens between ages three and six. Freud called this stage the Phallic stage.

The child’s identification with the same-sex parent represents the successful resolution of their Electra or Oedipus complexes, and indicates their development of a mature sexual role and identity. The Oedipus complex is based on Euripides’ play ‘Oedipus’ in which a man unknowingly marries his mother and murders his father. The Electra complex pertains to Euripides’ ‘Electra’ in which a woman plots to murder her mother and is obsessively close to her father.
